Subject Matter

I read the words of poets heard
In times before my birth
Whose songs of love were sonnets of
The majesty of earth

And in reply I wonder why
Mine try to understand
To figure out and sing about
The majesty of man

The beauty known in worlds they’ve shown
Through imagery and rhyme
Has stood throughout the fear and doubt
And love and life of time

And shown God’s hand in grains of sand
And bubbles of the sea
But failed to show His heart and soul
Ingrained in you and me

The songs of those who writing chose
To praise days one through five
Forget that on the next day’s dawn
His image came to life

Creations of the Lord above
Though glorious and full
Are finished by the one that I
Examine and extol
