Five Years Ago on Friday

Ten years ago on Friday
I told you who I was
And hoped that you would see more than I said

Ten years ago on Friday
My life was changed because
We hadn’t learned to love each other yet

Nine years ago on Friday
You showed me who you were
And still I feel expressions that you wore

Nine years ago on Friday
My life became a blur
With clarity I’d never known before

Eight years ago on Friday
You kissed me and I knew
That I could never live outside those eyes

Eight years ago on Friday
We kissed goodbye—it’s true
But shook on finding future fond goodbyes

Five years ago on Friday
I asked you for your life
And all the lives that after it would be

Five years ago on Friday
My dream became my wife
And life became a dream it seems to me

Five years ago on Friday
I held you in my hand
And watched you cry my endless happy tears

Forever years from Friday
I’ll count the grains of sand
And reminisce on endless happy years
