For Just a Little While

Iím making myself love you
For just a little while
To justify the things I have to do
The words that have to whisper
The silly sort of smile
The eyes that have to suffer over you

The lips that have to linger
The hands that have to hope
To hold you how they hold the hands of her
And when the eveningís over
The kid who has to cope
With watching from within the way we were

The feelings are fictitious
Made up to mar my mind
And trick me into treating them as true
But manufactured moments
Just like the natural kind
Can find a way to stay inside of you

So Iím making myself love you
For just a little while
To live the lives of lovers others lived
But privately I ponder
And passively compile
The pureness of a love thatís positive
