Fantasy Island

The raindrops always brought a change
A transformation
A new beginning
The desolation of the unfinished back yard
Became an Eden
And a tropical paradise
Emerged from the vacant lot next door
Water-slides carved by erosion
Ponds created in the abyss of a footprint
And mountains rose from mounds of dirt
GI Joe, Barbie, even Luke Skywalker
Visited this magical haven
Swimming, surfing
Exploring caves, and building castles
Then the sun would scare away the clouds
And the island would vanish forever
At least until the next rain storm
Now we have a shed and dogs and a nice lawn
But we havenít seen the island for years
People can be blind sometimes
But a child can make magic out of a mud puddle
