Many Great Men

Many great men
Have passed this way before me
Many are yet to come
Can I do it?

Realizing my own mortality
Vulnerability and weakness
I stand somewhere in the middle of everything
Knowing that by realizing
I can overcome
But feeling the thickening fear
That comes with realization
And trembling with doubt
As I estimate the distance
To the footprints of my forefathers

The fear is cold and personal
The doubt is heavy and relentless
I long to shed them both
And leap into the light that is there
If I can only conquer
The next two steps

Deep breath
Iím stepping
