The years of life have come and gone
And I, who once proclaimed
The best of years the one you’re on
Have found the statement not withdrawn
But often-times disclaimed

Nostalgia for the days gone by
And thoughts of yesteryear
Have brought at times a lonely sigh
And for a moment closed my eye
To good times that are here

And looking lost on “glory days”
I feel some atrophy
And wonder how the hurried haze
Of grown-up life in grown-up ways
Can match my memory

For memories are tried and true
The joy therein is real
But future ones are made by you
And what you with your present do
Ensuing times to till

The years of life have come and gone
And knowing that they will
Forever forward carry on
I cherish those from which I’ve drawn
And love those living still
