Through Twilight Talks

In twilight hours
Or middle night
Or sometimes break of dawn
I've woken you
To say goodnight
And tell you how it's gone

We've talked for hours of nothing
We've babbled recondite
We've fostered familial friendships
From conversations in the night

But time goes by
And children grow
And lifetimes roll along
And intervals
Between "Hello"
Are perfunctorily prolonged

And amid the many missions
That occupy my mind
I find my feelings further
From the bonds I've left behind

In loneliness
And longing for
The love we shared back then
I've woken you
Just as before
To reunion with a friend

We've talked for hours of nothing
Despite the years to tell
I've carried on from dusk to dawn
You've always listened well

And time goes by
And people grow
And lifetimes roll along
But bonds we bound
So long ago
Stay steady, still, and strong

And amid the many missions
That occupy your mind
I'm humbled, awed, and honored
That you always find the time
